I am writing to urge you to prioritize the immediate extension of the enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits. Since these subsidies expired at the end of 2025, millions of hard-working American families have seen their monthly health insurance premiums double or triple, creating an unsustainable financial crisis for the middle class. The House has already taken a bipartisan step by passing an extension in January; it is now critical that the Senate follows suit. Allowing these subsidies to remain expired is not just a healthcare issue—it is an economic one. When premiums skyrocket, healthy individuals are forced to drop their coverage, leading to a death spiral that destabilizes the entire insurance market and drives up costs for everyone, including those with employer-sponsored insurance. By extending these credits, you protect the freedom of Americans to choose their own doctors and maintain their private insurance without being priced out of the market. Furthermore, I ask that you protect the core of the ACA from being dismantled by skinny budget proposals. We need a system that ensures pre-existing conditions are covered and that the "safety net" remains intact for those who need it most. Please work across the aisle to pass a clean extension of the premium tax credits and ensure that no American has to choose between their health and their home.
