I am writing as a constituent to demand immediate Congressional oversight regarding recent reports that satellite communications via Starlink and Starshield were intentionally restricted in Ukraine. Disabling defense connectivity during an active conflict endangers innocent lives, degrades sovereign defensive operations, and raises profound legal and constitutional questions.
This situation crosses into critical constitutional territory:
1. Constitutional & Impeachment Oversight: U.S. defense commitments and foreign policy must follow clear, statutory guidelines enacted by Congress. Arbitrary intervention or backchannel directives that sabotage allied defense infrastructure risk violating constitutional principles and warrant formal inquiry.
2. International Humanitarian Law: Intentional actions that disrupt defensive capabilities protecting civilian infrastructure, schools, and hospitals raise grave questions under the Geneva Conventions. Both executive officials and defense contractors must be held strictly accountable to international law.
3. National Security Risks: Allowing private corporate entities or executive backchannels to alter active military networks without transparent Congressional authorization sets a dangerous precedent for national security.
I urge you to take immediate legislative action:
Convene joint committee hearings to determine who authorized or coordinated these network restrictions.
Issue subpoenas for all communications between executive officials, military personnel, and private contractors.
Initiate formal inquiry proceedings to evaluate whether high crimes, misdemeanors, or abuse of power occurred.
Pass strict legislative guardrails preventing private firms or unauthorized executive actions from altering U.S.-backed communication networks during conflicts.
As a co-equal branch of government, Congress must assert its duty to uphold the Constitution and protect democratic norms. I look forward to your prompt response regarding your plan of action.
