Vote no on limiting courts’ ability to check presidential abuses of power.
To: Sen. Cantwell, Sen. Murray

April 14
The Trump administration has spent the entirety of this term attacking our system of checks and balances – trying to erode any structures that would keep them from carrying out their attacks on our civil rights and liberties. Now, they've taken aim at the judiciary.
Fair and impartial courts play a critical role in upholding our freedoms and reining in overreach from any branch of government. One major tool judges use to do this is injunctive relief – which blocks executive orders and federal policies nationwide that appear unlawful while a legal challenge proceeds. Acting well within the scope of their constitutional authority and laws enacted by Congress, federal judges have granted injunctive relief to temporarily block the Trump administration from illegally deporting countless immigrants under a wartime law, protect medical care for trans youth, and more. But extreme lawmakers just passed a bill in the House that would undermine judges' ability to serve in their constitutional role as a check on lawless exercises of executive power: H.R. 1526.
H.R. 1526 poses a danger to us all – and removes a check on the executive, threatening every right we hold dear. Tell your Senators: Vote no on limiting courts’ ability to check presidential abuses of power.
