Constituent request — DOJ compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act I am a constituent, and I am writing to ask you to take three specific actions this month to compel the Department of Justice to comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act. 1. Publicly state, on the record, that you expect the Department of Justice to comply with Judge Emmet Sullivan’s July 2, 2026 order rather than use an appeal to delay releasing records. 2. Join or reissue an oversight demand — like the one Judiciary and Oversight Committee members already sent DOJ in March 2026 — requiring a full written accounting of every redaction, the specific legal basis for each one, and a firm compliance deadline. 3. If the Department continues to miss deadlines, support a hearing, subpoena, or formal referral to hold DOJ leadership accountable. The law itself carries no built-in penalty for noncompliance, which means oversight from Congress is the only real enforcement mechanism left. Here is why this matters. Congress passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act with near-unanimous, bipartisan support. It required full release of these records by December 19, 2025. That deadline was missed. On June 26, 2026, Judge Sullivan ordered the DOJ to unredact a specific set of records — including emails describing abuse of minors, a draft indictment naming co-conspirators, and FBI interview materials — or show cause why it could not, by July 2, 2026. The judge found that Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche had already effectively conceded the department was violating the law. That deadline has also passed. Rather than comply, DOJ filed a response defending its redactions and said it will appeal instead of releasing the records. This isn’t a technical dispute over an ambiguous statute. It’s a second missed deadline on a law Congress passed almost unanimously, precisely because the public was told these records would be released. Every month this drags on, survivors, journalists, and the public are denied information they were legally promised, and the people named in these files gain more time and cover. I expect a response describing what specific action you intend to take, and by when.
