Why Is the Supreme Court Letting a President Control Who Gets to Vote by Mail? I am asking you to publicly oppose the Supreme Court's decision this week clearing the way for President Trump's executive order restricting mail-in voting, and to use every tool available to protect voters ahead of November's midterms. On Monday, August 24, 2026, the Supreme Court lifted a lower-court injunction that had blocked key parts of Trump's March 2026 executive order, which directs the Postal Service to send mail ballots only to voters on lists compiled by USPS and the Department of Homeland Security. The order affects 23 states and Washington, D.C. U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani had ruled in June that the order was unconstitutional, then issued a nationwide injunction on August 11 blocking USPS from implementing it. The Supreme Court's unsigned decision paused that ruling without addressing whether the underlying order is legal at all. This isn't a fringe concern. All three of the Court's liberal justices dissented, and even the Postal Service told the courts in July that it may not have enough time to carry out these changes before ballots go out. Some states are already preparing to mail ballots to military and overseas voters in early September. I've voted by mail before, and I shouldn't have to wonder whether a list built by federal agencies will decide if my ballot gets delivered at all. That's not how elections are supposed to work in this country. I am asking you to: ● Publicly demand answers from USPS and DHS about how these voter lists are being compiled and who is accountable for errors ● Support state legislation protecting mail ballot access, modeled after the Freedom to Vote Act's mail voting provisions ● Push for congressional hearings on USPS's authority to restrict ballot delivery The Supreme Court didn't rule this order legal — it just ran out the clock on the people trying to stop it.
