Urge Immediate Action: Remove Alina Habba for Abuse of Power
To: Sen. Merkley, Sen. Wyden
From: A verified voter in Myrtle Creek, OR
May 20
As your constituent, I am urging you to take a stand against the outrageous abuse of power by Alina Habba, who is currently serving as Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey. Her decision to bring politically motivated charges against Congresswoman LaMonica McIver is not only disgraceful—it is dangerous.
Video of the incident clearly contradicts the government’s claims. This isn’t a misunderstanding; it is a calculated effort to punish a sitting member of Congress for performing legitimate oversight of an ICE detention facility. This weaponization of federal prosecution is something we would expect in an authoritarian regime—not in the United States.
I am asking you to speak out publicly and forcefully. Alina Habba must be removed from her position, either through direct action or impeachment proceedings. If prosecutors are allowed to fabricate charges against elected officials without consequence, it sets a terrifying precedent for the rest of us.
You have long been a defender of justice, transparency, and civil liberties. I’m asking you to continue that leadership now and do everything in your power to hold Habba accountable and protect the legitimacy of our justice system.
Thank you for your service and commitment to democracy.
