An Open Letter

The pages of history are littered with the ink of grievous mistakes, regrettable actions taken in the name of necessity - but today we find ourselves repeating those very mistakes instead of learning from them. The U.S. funding of Israel's actions against Palestinians civilians - individuals who share the same right to life, dignity, and peace as you and me - is a stark example of how people's lives are converted into mere political currency. Time is no longer a defense we can hide behind. We have the terrible advantage of a history full of hard-won lessons and the choice to not repeat the past lies firmly in our hands.
Today, as I write this letter, the lines between right and wrong, peace and violence, blur alongside the loss of innocent lives. The foreign policy of the United States, a country known for its democratic values, inclines towards war rather than diplomacy, favoring the manufacture and sending of arms over the incessant, relentless pursuit of peace. Far from the realities of their government's decisions, the average American citizen watches as their hands are forced to hold the handles of guns instead of the tools of peace and progress.
Let this be our cry for reprieve, a plea to all those within reach of this message: We need to stop the funding of violence, avert the manufacturing of chaos and suffering, and rally for a ceasefire. It is time for us to demand the abolition of these crimes against humanity. I urge you, in all certainty, all clarity, that we need to act now. We cannot wait for the next tragic headline, illuminating our screens and our conscience too late. We must unquestioningly cease to fund and foster these nightmares, exchanging gunfire for dialogue, hatred for understanding, and war for a ceasefire. Let us advocate for peace because the alternative is no longer tenable.
