ICE Is Out of Controll

To: Rep. Sessions, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Waco, TX

January 27

I write as a concerned citizen who is horrified by the pattern of violence, unconstitutional conduct, and systemic abuses by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Recent events underscore what many advocates, civil rights organizations, and public officials have described as a federal law enforcement apparatus operating with too little accountability and far too much force. Just this month, numerous Americans (certainly including myself) have been deeply disturbed by the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by ICE and Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis, where video evidence and eyewitness accounts raise serious questions about the necessity and legality of using lethal force against unarmed civilians exercising their rights. Beyond these high-profile killings, ubiquitous reports (many affirmed by ICE itself) show that ICE agents are operating in ways that undermine constitutional protections—such as entering homes without judicial warrants, using masked agents without visible identification, and engaging in tactics that create fear and diminish accountability. Moreover, conditions within ICE detention facilities—especially at large tent encampments like Camp East Montana—have been documented to include severe overcrowding, neglect, and even multiple detainee deaths, which civil liberties groups have rightly condemned. These developments are not isolated anomalies; they reflect a broader trend of federal immigration enforcement expanding rapidly—detaining record numbers of people, many without criminal records—under policies that often bypass due process protections. Congress has both the authority and the obligation to provide robust oversight of federal agencies. I urge you to support meaningful legislative reforms that mandate transparency, protect civil liberties, limit the use of force, require identifiable insignia and body cameras, and ensure that ICE operates within constitutional bounds. Failure to act cedes the rule of law to a federal agency increasingly perceived as unaccountable and abusive. Thank you for your attention and service. I expect you to stand on the side of justice and constitutional governance.
