Condemnation of Attacks on USDA Funding and the Federal Court System

To: Rep. Turner, Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno

From: A constituent in Dayton, OH

March 31, 2025

I am writing to express my deep outrage over the unlawful and reckless attempts to disrupt USDA funding for food banks and school meal programs, as well as the ongoing attacks on the integrity of the federal court system. These actions are not only a direct assault on the most vulnerable members of our communities but also a blatant disregard for the rule of law and the fundamental principles of our democracy. This is not normal, and it must not be treated as such. The normalization of these tactics—holding essential services hostage for political leverage and undermining the judiciary to avoid accountability—is profoundly dangerous. When elected officials engage in or enable this behavior, they erode public trust and push our democracy toward instability. We cannot allow these attacks on our institutions to become routine political strategy. Food insecurity is a crisis affecting millions of Americans, including children who rely on school meals as a primary source of nutrition. Any effort to withhold or obstruct USDA funding for these essential programs is both cruel and indefensible. Weaponizing hunger for political gain is unacceptable, and I demand that you take immediate action to protect these critical resources. Congress has a moral and constitutional obligation to ensure that taxpayer-funded programs serve their intended purpose—feeding those in need, not being used as bargaining chips in partisan battles. Furthermore, the persistent and coordinated efforts to undermine the federal judiciary threaten the very foundation of our democracy. The courts serve as a check on executive and legislative overreach, and any attempt to delegitimize their authority through political intimidation or unconstitutional actions is a direct attack on the rule of law. Our judicial system must remain independent, free from interference, and fully empowered to uphold justice without fear of reprisal. I urge you to take a firm stand against these reckless and unconstitutional actions. I expect you to publicly denounce any efforts to defund or obstruct USDA programs and to defend the independence of the federal judiciary. Your constituents—and the country—are watching. I will be following your actions on these issues closely and will hold you accountable for your response. The American people deserve leaders who prioritize justice, integrity, and the well-being of their communities over political gamesmanship. I look forward to your prompt response outlining the steps you will take to address these urgent concerns.
