The Supreme Court just allowed the Trump administration to resume deporting migrants to countries they have no ties to, with zero opportunity to raise fears of torture. This is a direct violation of the Convention Against Torture, ratified by the Senate in 1994, which requires that individuals have a chance to present credible claims before being sent somewhere they could be harmed. I want you to publicly oppose this policy and push for legislation that enforces meaningful due process in third-country removal cases.
Twenty-five thousand people have already been removed under this program. One group was held in a converted shipping container in Djibouti. The administration's position is that blanket assurances from a receiving country are sufficient — no individual review, no hearing, no recourse. Lower courts have repeatedly ruled that the law demands more than that. The Supreme Court's emergency orders are not final rulings on the merits, and arguments are scheduled for December. There is still time to act. Use your platform and your vote to demand that this administration follow the law it is bound by.
