January 7

I am writing as a constituent who is deeply disturbed by what appears to be a complete breakdown in judgment and accountability within our federal government. What I am seeing is not normal, and it should not be treated as such. I have several questions that deserve clear answers. First, why is a January 6 rioter working at the Department of Justice? How did someone involved in an attack on the U.S. Capitol gain employment within the very agency tasked with enforcing federal law? Were you aware this happened? Did you object? What oversight is Congress exercising to understand who approved this hire, what access this individual has, and whether the Department of Justice is being compromised from within? Second, do you support the president’s pardons of more than 1,500 January 6 defendants, including individuals convicted of violent crimes? Do you believe people who assaulted law enforcement officers should be granted blanket pardons? If you oppose this, what actions have you taken beyond public statements? Third, are you aware that some January 6 rioters have gone on to commit serious crimes after receiving leniency? One individual later killed a 32 year old mother of two in a drunken driving crash. Others have been arrested or charged in connection with new violent acts. Are you tracking how many of these individuals have reoffended, and what responsibility Congress has to examine the public safety consequences of these decisions? Fourth, are you aware that pardoned January 6 defendants have since been accused of making violent threats and engaging in further criminal behavior? At what point does Congress acknowledge that political violence is being excused, normalized, and in some cases rewarded? I will be blunt. What are you thinking by allowing this to continue without meaningful intervention? Congress was not elected to stay silent. Oversight is not optional. The Constitution requires you to act, not to look the other way. If you no longer wish to do the job you were elected to do, then step aside so someone else can. This country deserves representatives who take the rule of law seriously. Here is what I expect from you. I expect you to support hearings into Department of Justice hiring and oversight failures related to January 6.
I expect you to demand transparency and accountability from the DOJ.
I expect you to oppose blanket pardons that include violent offenders.
I expect a written response clearly stating your position on each issue raised above. I love this country enough to demand better from the people entrusted with its governance. I expect you to do your job.
