I am writing to respectfully urge you, as my elected representative, to formally request that the United States Supreme Court permit C-SPAN to televise the forthcoming oral arguments concerning the federal government’s request to implement President Trump’s Executive Order on birthright citizenship.
This case carries extraordinary legal, political, and personal significance for millions of Americans. As such, it deserves the highest level of transparency and public access. The public has a right to see—directly and in full—how such a consequential issue is argued before the nation’s highest court.
Since the Court began allowing live audio in 2020, C-SPAN has played a vital role in bringing oral arguments to the public. Yet, visual coverage remains limited to still images. Allowing live video coverage of this case would build on existing efforts to make the judiciary more transparent, offering Americans a front-row seat to observe the deliberations that could fundamentally alter the meaning of the 14th Amendment.
This moment is a civic milestone. Broadcasting these arguments would promote public trust, encourage civic education, and demonstrate a firm commitment to democratic values and accountability. It would allow citizens not just to hear, but to witness the arguments that shape the rights and identity of our nation.
I urge you to join C-SPAN and others in calling upon the Supreme Court to permit televised coverage of this case. Your leadership could help ensure that this broadcast is conducted with the dignity and respect it deserves, while reinforcing the public’s connection to their government and its most consequential decisions.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I hope you will consider taking immediate action.
