If House Republicans are going to march in lockstep behind this war, then the task for everyone else is to raise the price of supporting it until that support becomes politically toxic. You cannot treat this like a normal policy disagreement. This war is a strategic failure, a moral stain, and a direct hit to the economic security of the people you represent. Oil and gas shocks are already rippling outward. Food prices will follow. American families will pay for this war at the pump, at the grocery store, and through another mountain of debt while innocent people in Iran are maimed and killed under the rule of a government that already brutalizes them. AP reports the Pentagon is already seeking another $200 billion for the war, on top of existing defense spending, while Reuters reports U.S. forces have already suffered deaths and injuries with no clear end in sight.
You still have tools. Use all of them. Force repeated war powers votes even if Republicans kill them. The House already rejected one such resolution 219 to 212, and the Senate blocked another 53 to 47. Keep making them vote. Keep making them own it. Drag every cowardly “concern” and every fake reservation into the public record until voters can see exactly who chose party obedience over constitutional duty. Reuters also reports the War Powers clock is still running toward the end of April. Make that deadline impossible to ignore.
Attack the funding relentlessly. Every request, every supplemental package, every reprogramming effort should become a public trial of this war’s cost, lies, and consequences. Demand hearings. Issue subpoenas. Put administration officials under oath. Force them to answer for mission creep, civilian casualties, and the absence of any coherent exit. Reuters reports Senate Democrats are already demanding answers about a strike on an Iranian girls’ school. That pressure needs to intensify, not taper off.
And say it plainly: every member who enables this war is tying their name to a catastrophe that will age like rot. That can and should be leveraged in the next two federal election cycles to flip seats in both chambers. Make support for this war politically radioactive. Make every vote for it a future campaign ad.
