Reform inhumane conditions in immigrant detention facilities now

To: Sen. Banks, Sen. Young, Rep. Spartz

From: A constituent in Muncie, IN

July 2

The inhumane and unsanitary conditions reported in immigrant detention facilities across the country are unacceptable, with detainees denied access to adequate food and water in addition to being deprived of showers, medication, and forced to sleep on bare floors in overcrowded spaces. This inexcusable deprivation of basic necessities like nutrition and hydration is exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis that demands immediate reforms. As a nation premised on human rights and dignity, we cannot allow this injustice against detainees, regardless of their immigration status, to persist unchecked without comprehensively addressing these systemic failures.
