As a constituent, I am writing to express my deep concern and urge you to champion measures within the Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill that prioritize the safety and well-being of our communities. It’s time to put an end to what can only be described as a terror campaign perpetrated by ICE and Border Patrol.
The recent tragic deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good are a stark and unacceptable reminder of the escalating violence and unchecked abuses within these federal agencies. These losses are a direct consequence of a system that prioritizes enforcement over accountability, putting innocent people at serious risk.
I believe a revised DHS appropriations bill must, at a minimum, include the following critical safeguards:
1. Halt any increases in funding for ICE and CBP; maintain current levels.
2. Remove ICE and Border Patrol operations from Minneapolis and other communities where their presence creates a climate of fear and distrust.
3. Prohibit ICE and Border Patrol from conducting enforcement activities at designated sensitive locations, including houses of worship, public schools, day care centers, and hospitals.
4. Restrict ICE and Border Patrol’s ability to target individuals based on factors such as race, language, accent, employment, or location at the time of apprehension.
5. Eliminate the administration’s current practice of conducting warrantless home entries and arrests.
Again, this is the bare minimum. Ideally ICE should be completely abolished.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I sincerely hope to see you advocating for these crucial reforms and standing up for the well-being of everyone in our communities.
