I am writing to express my unequivocal opposition to H.R. 86, the so-called “Nullify Occupational Safety and Health Administration Act” (NOSHA Act), which seeks to abolish the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). This proposal is not only reckless and irresponsible but also poses a direct threat to the health and safety of American workers.
OSHA has been instrumental in reducing workplace fatalities and injuries since its establishment in 1970. Eliminating this agency would dismantle decades of progress, leaving workers vulnerable to hazardous conditions without recourse. The absence of federal oversight would likely lead to an increase in workplace accidents, illnesses, and deaths, as employers would no longer be held accountable to enforce safety standards.
Furthermore, abolishing OSHA would disproportionately affect workers in high-risk industries such as construction, manufacturing, and mining, where stringent safety regulations are crucial. It would also undermine the rights of workers to a safe working environment, a fundamental principle that should not be compromised.
This bill is a blatant disregard for worker welfare and prioritizes deregulation over human lives. I urge you to stand against H.R. 86 and any efforts to weaken workplace safety protections. The health and safety of American workers depend on maintaining and strengthening OSHA, not abolishing it.
