I no longer know what is left to say to someone like you—an elected official who has chosen to put party above country, who offers unearned allegiance to a visibly unfit President, and who has so clearly abandoned the core tenets of the oath you took to uphold the Constitution of the United States. What should I understand about your values? Are you simply a power-hungry sycophant? When you look in the mirror, what do you see? A great man? A historical figure? I ask not out of admiration but out of a deep curiosity about the nature of human cowardice and deception. Ego-driven weakness is sadly predictable. The latest shoe to drop for me, is your failure to support public needs media. Your trust in capitalism and for profit enterprises is truly disgraceful. There are somethings we cannot trust with capitalists, but that seems lost on you. Perhaps you are not someone who belongs in U.S. politics at all. You might find a more comfortable home in something like a 21st-century Politburo—though you'd first have to earn Putin's trust. Still, it might suit your current trajectory better than public service in a democratic republic. I was a Republican for over 40 years. I believed in the principles of limited government, individual responsibility, and moral leadership. But your actions, and those of your peers, have transformed the party into something unrecognizable. As such, I find myself having to place my hope in others—leaders who still care about this country and its values. Because you no longer seem to care, and yet, you still represent me, I won’t wish you happiness. I’ll wish you courage—courage to grow a backbone, to re-discover the principles this country was founded on, and to finally stand up for American values.
