I am writing to express my deep concern about the continued failures of our current Democratic Party leadership in Congress and to urge you to support calls for new leadership that can effectively resist the authoritarian threats facing our democracy. The recent conduct of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer demonstrates a pattern of weakness, capitulation, and outright betrayal of Democratic values that demands immediate action. Most egregiously, both Jeffries and Schumer have refused to endorse their own party's official candidate for mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, despite his decisive primary victory. This stunning display of hypocrisy from leaders who demand party loyalty from progressives while exempting themselves from the same standard reveals the fundamental problem with our current leadership. When a former Republican spokesperson endorses our mayoral candidate while our own Democratic leaders refuse to do so, we have reached a crisis point that requires decisive action. The American people are demanding change, with 62% of Democratic voters calling for new party leadership. Under Jeffries and Schumer's watch, Democrats have suffered devastating losses while these leaders respond to fascistic attacks with "strongly worded letters" and cringe photo ops. Their record of pre-emptive submission, from Jeffries' admission of powerlessness to Schumer's shameful capitulation on government shutdowns, proves they are fundamentally unequipped for this moment. I urge you to champion new leadership that will provide the fearless, unrelenting opposition our democracy desperately needs. The future of our party and our democratic institutions depends on leaders who will fight, not fold.
