American lives are not a small price to pay

I am writing as a concerned citizen to urge Congress to investigate and respond to President Donald Trump's recent public remarks regarding Iran and the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego. According to widely reported accounts, the President stated at a political rally that Iran could "take out" Los Angeles and San Diego and suggested that such a consequence would be a "small price to pay" in the context of the ongoing conflict with Iran. These remarks have alarmed many Americans and elected officials across the political spectrum. The fundamental duty of a President is to protect the American people. Any statement that appears to dismiss threats against American cities or treats the safety of millions of Americans as expendable undermines public confidence in that responsibility. Congress has both the authority and the obligation to provide oversight of the Executive Branch. I respectfully ask that you: Publicly address these remarks and their implications. Conduct appropriate oversight to determine whether the statements reflect official policy or intentions. Consider all constitutional remedies available if you conclude that the President's conduct is incompatible with the duties of the office. Regardless of political affiliation, Americans deserve leadership that places the safety and security of every community first. Our nation's leaders should be unequivocal in defending American cities and American lives. Thank you for your service and for your attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing how you intend to respond.
