Investigate Trump's $10 Billion Pledge and Pursue Criminal Charges or Impeachment
To: Sen. Padilla, Rep. Chu, Sen. Schiff
From: A verified voter in Pasadena, CA
February 20
I am writing to urge you to investigate President Trump's recent announcement pledging $10 billion in United States funds to an entity called the "Board of Peace" and to pursue appropriate legal accountability, including impeachment proceedings if warranted.
Trump stated publicly, "I want to let you know that United States is going to make a contribution of $10 billion to the Board of Peace." This announcement raises serious constitutional and legal concerns. Congress holds the power of the purse under Article I of the Constitution, and no appropriation has been made for this purpose. A president cannot unilaterally commit federal funds without congressional authorization.
My research indicates the Board of Peace appears to be a private entity created by Trump, not an official United States government organization. The Board's own charter reportedly shows no connection to the US government. If accurate, this would mean Trump is attempting to transfer taxpayer money to a private organization he controls, which would constitute a clear violation of federal law and potentially meet the constitutional standard for high crimes and misdemeanors.
I am requesting that you take immediate action to investigate this pledge, determine whether any funds have been transferred or obligated, and halt any such transfers. If investigation reveals that Trump has violated his constitutional oath or federal law by attempting to appropriate funds without congressional authority, I urge you to support impeachment proceedings or criminal referral to the Department of Justice.
Your constituents deserve accountability and protection of the public treasury. I look forward to your response on what steps you will take.
