Consumer protection of physical media and digital rights access.

To: Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Veasey, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Carrollton, TX

July 8

The video game industry along with the motion picture and television industries has begun to remove physical media away from consumers. Customers will be paying full price for content that had become cheaper over time options. It's very anti-consumer, anti-competitive, and raises the cost for voters. It robs the customer of having physical ownership of a product, goods, collection, resellers, or services that render a physical product. Physical Media offers true ownership, superior uncompressed audio and video quality, and immunity to corporate licensing removals. Unlike digital content, physical items cannot be remotely altered, censored, or deleted. I am asking Congress to bring forward a consumer protection legislation requiring physical media for all consumer media including movies, TV shows, video games, consumer software, and music. It should be required under the law for physical media should always be offered in perpetuity. We shouldn't allow a digital only future that robs voters and customers of physical ownership and collectors items that can be resold, given, or inherited. Consumers and voters should always have the right to have independent, offline, and physical copies of their purchases. Also, digital media content companies should be required to honor digital sales and access in perpetuity. It should allow for access and transfer to physical media without losing digital or physical access. If content companies lose or revoke access, a full refund should be mandatory under the law.
