Economic instability in Egypt

To: Sen. Luján, Rep. Leger Fernandez, Sen. Heinrich

From: A constituent in Clovis, NM

July 7

I'm concerned about economic instability in Egypt. Egypt is a critical regional American ally, and is facing consistent triple digit inflation, protests, and even power shortages in the form of rolling blackouts. The region is unstable enough. If Egypt's government falls and is replaced by a populist Islamist government, things will get far worse for the Egyptian Christian minority, relations with Israel, and any hope of resolving the situation in Gaza peacefully. I urge the federal government to act to help the Egyptian government alleviate domestic economic conditions and stabilize the EGP so that consumer prices there don't force a disastrous change in government.
