I am writing to demand that you oppose the proposed FADPA, ACPA, and BlockBEARD bills, and that you strengthen your opposition to KOSA, the SCREEN Act, and the IODA Act. These bills represent a coordinated attack on internet freedom, free expression, and the ability of people to safely and openly use online platforms without government censorship or surveillance.
Each of these proposals follows the same dangerous trend of restricting lawful content, undermining privacy, and forcing platforms into heavy-handed compliance regimes that primarily harm marginalized voices, creators, and ordinary users. Far from protecting the public, these bills empower corporations and political actors to dictate what information is accessible, silencing dissent and stifling free thought in the process.
The United States should be leading the world in defending digital rights and freedom of expression, not rolling them back under the guise of safety or decency. These measures do not address the real issues facing the internet, such as monopolization by tech giants, invasive data collection, or the lack of robust privacy protections. Instead, they pave the way for censorship and surveillance at the expense of liberty.
I urge you to stand firmly against FADPA, ACPA, BlockBEARD, KOSA, SCREEN, and IODA. Our democracy depends on the free flow of information and the ability of individuals to connect, create, and communicate without fear of authoritarian restrictions.
Please do not let fear-driven legislation dismantle the principles of free expression and open access to information that define a free society.
