Stop the Assault on Federal Employees Pass H.R. 2550 and Defend the Rule of Law

To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

August 4

I am writing to express my outrage over the continued attacks on federal employees and the rule of law. The latest effort by the Department of Veterans Affairs to terminate its collective bargaining agreement with more than 320,000 VA employees despite ongoing litigation and previous court rulings is yet another example of an administration that continues to disregard legal protections for the federal workforce. AFGE has returned to federal court seeking to stop what it argues is another unlawful attempt to strip employees of their negotiated rights. These actions are not isolated incidents. They are part of a broader pattern of undermining the professional civil service, weakening unions, and attacking the very employees who keep our government functioning. Federal employees are not political pawns. They are veterans, nurses, claims specialists, scientists, engineers, law enforcement officers, air traffic controllers, and countless other public servants who dedicate their careers to serving the American people. Russell Vought has been one of the chief architects behind efforts to dismantle longstanding civil service protections and weaken collective bargaining rights. The continued campaign against federal employees represents an assault on a merit based civil service that Congress established to ensure government serves the public, not political interests. I urge you to publicly oppose these continued attacks and stand up for the federal workforce. Veterans deserve a stable VA staffed by experienced professionals who are protected from politically motivated actions. Every federal employee deserves to know that Congress will defend the laws it enacted and the constitutional system of checks and balances. Most importantly, I urge you to support and fight for the passage of H.R. 2550, the Protect America’s Workforce Act. This legislation would help restore collective bargaining rights that have been stripped away and reaffirm Congress’s commitment to protecting the dedicated public servants who keep this country running. The federal workforce deserves respect, not intimidation. It deserves investment, not destruction. It deserves leaders who will defend the rule of law, not remain silent while it is eroded. I ask you to stand with federal employees, veterans, and the American people by defending our civil service, protecting workers’ rights, and supporting H.R. 2550 without delay. I look forward to seeing you take meaningful action.
