Dear Representative,
I am writing to urge you to oppose any legislation that shields fossil fuel companies from accountability — whether through liability protection, legal immunity, or any other form of legislative cover.
The internal record is clear. Major fossil fuel companies conducted their own research on climate change, understood the consequences, and made a deliberate choice to fund disinformation campaigns rather than disclose what they knew.
This was not negligence. It was a sustained, coordinated strategy to protect revenue at public expense.
The consequences have been real: rising costs, public health impacts, and infrastructure strain borne by taxpayers and communities — not by the companies responsible.
Congress should not now offer those same companies protection from the legal accountability that naturally follows from that conduct.
Legislation that insulates them from lawsuits, caps damages, or preempts state-level action rewards deception and sets a dangerous precedent for how powerful industries can behave without consequence.
I ask that you oppose any such measures and support transparency, legal accountability, and the rights of affected communities to seek remedy.
Respectfully,
