The detention of children in horrific conditions is cruel and unnecessary. There are more than enough American families who would foster these children until legal arrangements are made for unification with family is possible. As a retired teacher, my husband and I like many others would willingly open our home and work with official service offices to care for these children and hopefully keep them from the trauma now being inflicted by our government. It has to be less costly to cover medical and food as a stipend to fostering vetted families. I am angry and ashamed at the treatment of these children and believe there is a better and more humane way.
