An Open Letter

To: Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in Palmyra, PA

June 18

I am writing today to express my disgust with your lack of action to protect the American public lands. We had the privilege of visiting some of these lands in the last several weeks, and they are absolutely a public treasure. Not only that, many of these lands pay for themselves with the visitors who pay an admittance fee (in addition to our tax dollars). These fees absolutely pay to protect the lands which CANNOT be gotten back once sold. Considering the sale of these lands is exceptionally short-sighted, and one more thing in a long list of actions that are being too quickly considered and passed, where different measures could have equal or more successful results without exploiting the land and the American public. I realize this isn't a popular measure, but enforcing taxation of the wealthy as we did before Regan's time is a much longer-term solution to the budget issues which, quite frankly, is significantly more fair to the masses.... dare I say "more democratic." I urge you to NOT support the sale of public lands ANYWHERE in the United States at this time, and to SUPPORT the senators who are taking a stand against this measure. In addition, I'd like to remind you that your seat may not be up for re-election right away, but we will be more than happy to vote against you and render you unemployed. I urge you NOT to take this seat for granted, and to serve those you've been elected to serve. You've done a poor job of listening so far.... I sincerely hope that changes soon!
