No Broadcast Executions

To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Peters

From: A constituent in San Diego, CA

October 12

I am contacting you today in regards to the Trump administration’s plans to livestream the military execution of Nidal Hasan by firing squad on December 3, 2026. The United States has not carried out a public execution since the 1930s. Similarly, the government has not carried out a military execution since 1961. The Trump administration’s plans to drag the country back decades as it relates to state-sanctioned murder is unacceptable. Livestreaming an execution only works to desensitize the masses to government violence and will create trauma for those who bear witness, whether they watch intentionally or unintentionally. As a constituent and a taxpayer, I demand that you use your position to introduce legislation that would bar the administration from livestreaming the execution in December.
