I am writing to urge you to oppose any deployment of U.S. ground troops to Iran. According to NBC News reporting from Friday, President Trump has privately expressed interest in deploying a small contingent of troops on the ground in Iran and has discussed this idea with aides and Republican officials. An elite paratroopers unit at Fort Bragg in North Carolina has already been ordered to hold back from a training exercise in Louisiana, raising serious concerns about imminent Middle East deployment.
This potential escalation is unacceptable. American families should not be asked to sacrifice their sons and daughters in another Middle Eastern conflict while those making these decisions face no personal consequences. The burden of war falls disproportionately on working families and communities that have already given too much in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Defense Secretary Hegseth has stated the U.S. will intensify Iran bombardment, and reports indicate that strikes on Iran are already diminishing U.S. stockpiles. Defense executives have been meeting at the White House to address this issue. This trajectory points toward deeper military involvement that could trap us in another prolonged conflict with no clear exit strategy.
Before any consideration of ground troops, Congress must exercise its constitutional authority over declarations of war. The American people deserve a full debate about the costs, risks, and objectives of military action against Iran. We have seen the consequences of rushing into Middle Eastern conflicts without adequate planning or public support.
I ask you to publicly oppose any ground troop deployment to Iran and to demand that the administration seek congressional authorization before escalating military action. Use your position to ensure that decisions about war and peace are made transparently and democratically, not through private discussions with aides and outside officials. Our military families deserve leaders who will exhaust diplomatic options before putting their lives at risk.
