Urgent: Covid-19 Vaccine Affordability and Leadership Accountability in Texas

To: Rep. Bucy, Sen. Flores

From: A constituent in Austin, TX

September 5

I am writing as a constituent, a college student, and someone with underlying health conditions to raise two urgent concerns about health and leadership here in Texas. First, I recently paid $80 out of pocket, even with insurance, for the new Covid-19 vaccine. In previous years, I never had to pay anything for Covid vaccines, which made it easier for people like me to stay protected. For students and families already balancing tuition, rent, and living expenses, this sudden new cost is a serious barrier to protection. As someone whose health depends on timely vaccination, I believe Texas must do more to ensure vaccines remain affordable, accessible, and covered without hidden costs. I urge you to work with state health agencies and insurers to address these unfair burdens. Second, I am alarmed that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a figure who has built his platform on spreading dangerous misinformation about vaccines and science, holds public office. His influence undermines public health and puts vulnerable people like me at greater risk. Leaders who erode trust in science and public health should not be in positions of authority. I urge you to speak out and take action to ensure that our state rejects this kind of harmful leadership. Texas families, students, and vulnerable populations need strong leaders who prioritize health, science, and safety over politics and conspiracy. I ask you to stand with your constituents by making vaccines affordable and by holding accountable those who threaten public trust.
