Urgent Concerns Regarding Secretary Hegseth and National Security Failures

To: Sen. Young, Rep. Messmer, Sen. Banks

From: A constituent in Mount Vernon, IN

July 9

As a constituent, I am extremely concerned about recent and ongoing decisions and actions under Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, including: • The use of insecure communications (“Signal-gate”), • Reports of a strategic meeting potentially involving Elon Musk on China-related decisions, • A decision to pause weapon shipments to Ukraine without full transparency or proper oversight. These actions pose serious risks to U.S. national security, damage relationships with allies, and show a lack of accountability in the Department of Defense. I urge you, as my elected representative, to: • Demand congressional investigations into these incidents, • Insist on transparency from the Department of Defense, • Push for clearer oversight protocols regarding national security decisions. Our democracy relies on civilian oversight and integrity in military leadership — not secrecy, personal deals, or strategic decisions made behind closed doors. Please act on behalf of your constituents to protect our nation’s interests.
