Overturn EPA's Rescission of Greenhouse Gas Endangerment Finding

To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Crockett, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Grand Prairie, TX

March 6

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to overturn the Environmental Protection Agency's February 12, 2026 final rule rescinding the 2009 Greenhouse Gas Endangerment Finding and repealing all greenhouse gas emission standards for motor vehicles under the Clean Air Act. This deregulatory action, published on February 18, 2026, eliminates critical protections that have reduced harmful emissions for over fifteen years. The EPA's claim of $1.3 trillion in savings obscures the true cost of this rule: transferring public health protections into private profits for oil and automotive corporations. By eliminating all future obligations for measurement, control, and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions from light-duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty vehicles, this rule removes accountability from the very industries most responsible for transportation emissions. Engine and vehicle manufacturers now face zero requirements to reduce their climate impact, even as extreme weather events intensify and air quality deteriorates in communities across your district. The 2009 Endangerment Finding was based on comprehensive scientific evidence that greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare. The EPA's new interpretation that the Clean Air Act does not authorize regulation of vehicle greenhouse gas emissions contradicts decades of established legal precedent and scientific consensus. This reversal abandons the agency's statutory duty to protect Americans from air pollution. This rule represents a massive giveaway to fossil fuel and automotive industries at the expense of constituent health, economic stability, and climate security. Without federal greenhouse gas standards, we will see increased respiratory illnesses, higher healthcare costs, and accelerated climate disruption affecting agriculture, infrastructure, and emergency services in our communities. I urge you to support Congressional action under the Congressional Review Act to overturn this rule, co-sponsor legislation restoring the Endangerment Finding, and publicly oppose this abandonment of science-based environmental protection. Your constituents deserve clean air and climate action, not corporate handouts disguised as regulatory relief.
