Protect National Forests, Reject Damaging "Fix Our Forests Act"

To: Rep. Hurd, Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet

The so-called "Fix Our Forests Act" is misguided legislation that would harm our treasured national forests rather than protect them. This bill would undermine key environmental laws like the National Environmental Policy Act and the Endangered Species Act, allowing logging projects to proceed without proper scientific review or public input. It promotes excessive commercial logging under the guise of fire risk reduction, despite research showing that such intensive logging can actually increase fire danger. Our national forests provide invaluable ecosystem services, harboring biodiversity, purifying air and water, and serving as natural carbon sinks. We must preserve these irreplaceable public lands for current and future generations, not sacrifice them to short-sighted commercial interests. I urge you to vote against this damaging legislation and instead support policies that truly safeguard our forests through science-based forest management and addressing the root causes of catastrophic wildfires like climate change.
