Concerns about reconciliation bill

To: Sen. McConnell, Sen. Paul, Rep. McGarvey

From: A verified voter in Louisville, KY

May 1

I am writing to express my deep concern and strong opposition to the recently proposed GOP immigration legislation, which seeks to raise immigration fees to fund mass deportations and expand detention facilities. The plan to detain up to 100,000 individuals, including families and children, raises serious humanitarian and ethical questions. The estimated $26.9 billion required for implementation, as reported by ICE, underscores the impracticality and fiscal irresponsibility of this approach. Additionally, the potential for deporting U.S. citizens is alarming and unacceptable. The expansion of detention facilities and aggressive deportation targets threaten the civil liberties of all residents. I urge you to reconsider support for this legislation and advocate for immigration policies that uphold our nation’s values of compassion, justice, and respect for human rights. It is imperative that we pursue solutions that are both effective and aligned with our constitutional principles.
