Stop ICE secret-police abductions

To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Van Duyne

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

June 24

I am again writing to express my outrage at heavily-armed, masked and unidentifiable men in unmarked military tactical gear abducting people off the streets with no warrants and no due process given. In the United States, law enforcement officers have to give people their name or at least a badge number so allegations of misconduct or questionable procedures can be reported. It’s how we establish and keep trust with these public servants. But these masked men, purportedly from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, are essentially bounty hunters taking advantage of easy targets. They are not rounding up dangerous criminals and gang members, as promised. They are abducting lawncare workers, dishwashers, and construction workers who have no criminal records. They are abducting immigrants at their court hearings who are working within the system to establish their status. These abductions by supposed “officers” undermines public trust in actual law enforcement. Sending those abducted to unnamed, untraceable detention centers are the tactics of an unaccountable secret police force. In 1930s and 40s Germany, Gestapo officers were required only to present their badge, not a picture ID, to identify them as members of the Gestapo without revealing personal information. We, you, are holding these ICE “officers” to a lower standard than the Gestapo. My wife and I strongly urge you to use your Congressional power and authority to demand ICE and those acting in ICE’s behalf show identification. Demand they be held accountable for all their actions. Demand they give those abducted due process to determine their immigration status before shipping them to secret, unnamed concentration camps.
