I am writing as your constituent to urge you to take stronger and more decisive action regarding federal immigration enforcement, particularly the conduct and scope of ICE and CBP operations.
Recent reporting makes clear that the reform proposals currently under discussion in Congress—such as limited body-camera requirements or modest code-of-conduct changes—are insufficient. These measures do not meaningfully prevent abuses, do not rein in the growing militarization of immigration enforcement, and fail to protect communities that have already experienced serious harm.
The killing of U.S. citizens during federal enforcement actions has underscored the urgency of this issue. Incremental reforms are not enough. I urge you to support legislation that:
• Ends ICE and CBP deployments in non-border urban areas
• Prohibits enforcement actions in sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals, places of worship, and courts
• Establishes real accountability through independent investigations and enforceable consequences for civil-rights violations
• Reduces excessive funding for agencies whose size, armament, and autonomy now far exceed their original mandate
Congress has a responsibility to protect constitutional rights and public safety. Symbolic reforms will not restore trust or prevent future abuses. Meaningful change requires bold leadership and a willingness to confront systemic problems directly.
I respectfully ask you to take a stronger public stand and support comprehensive reform.
