Immediate Action SAVES LIVES: End the Detention of Babies and Toddlers in Dilley
To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Gill
From: A constituent in Argyle, TX
January 26
I’m writing as a constituent demanding immediate action to stop ICE from detaining babies and toddlers at any ICE facility, specifically the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley. Attorneys and advocates have documented infants and very young children held in unsafe, unsanitary conditions, with families reporting contaminated food, poor water quality, inadequate medical care, and severe emotional distress. These conditions violate the Flores Settlement and basic child‑welfare standards.
I’m asking you to:
1. End the detention of infants, toddlers, and young children at Dilley and all ICE facilities;
2. Immediately reunify all separated families;
3. Launch an independent investigation into food safety, water quality, medical care, and retaliation inside the facility;
4. Pursue community‑based alternatives that protect child welfare and comply with federal law;
5. Hold ICE leadership and private contractors accountable for endangering children.
Babies and toddlers should never be held in detention. Please act now to protect these children and reunify their families.
