Condemn pardons that undermine rule of law and democracy
To: Pres. Trump
From: A constituent in Sammamish, WA
January 23, 2025
You explicitly pledged to only consider pardons for non-violent participants in the January 6th Capitol riots, yet the recent pardons granted to individuals like D.J. Rodriguez who violently attacked police officers are a clear violation of that commitment. By driving a stun gun into the neck of an officer defending the Capitol, Rodriguez's actions were egregiously violent and undermine the rule of law. Granting clemency to those who perpetrated such unconscionable violence against law enforcement erodes public trust in our justice system. I urge you to speak out against these indefensible pardons, uphold your pledge to the American people, and make clear that attacks on our democratic institutions and those sworn to protect them will not be tolerated nor excused through pardons for political gain. Maintaining integrity requires elected leaders to firmly reject anti-democratic forces and violent extremism.
