RESTRICTING SNAP IS RESTRICTING FOOD AND FREEDOMS OF LOWER CLASS
To: Gov. Kelly
From: A constituent in Wichita, KS
March 5
SNAP is food assistance for those with low economic standing, to help close the gap and ensure they have food access. Everyone has different tastes and everyone deserves the option to have a small treat of their choice. No one in the world eats entirely healthy, with no junk food or candy or soda. Controlling what SNAP recipients can buy is unacceptable. Either Kansas is going to help its people afford food, or not. You cannot pick and choose what people are allowed to consume. There is absolutely no issue with snap recipients buying some candy or soda so that they and their child can have a sweet treat occasionally. This is nothing but invasion and control. Obesity is a real problem, but the poor people on snap who can barely afford food, are not the main drive of that. Conditional support is not support at all. It is control. It is coercion. This cannot stand. Please stand up for poor people in Kansas and support their right to make their own choices and purchases. Out of a $300 grocery bill, the max amount of candy and soda would be $50. No one is living entirely off of junk, it’s impossible. Sugar enhances dopamine and gives people a happier feeling. It is a nice way to feel better about the state of your life and the state of the world currently. Regardless, every citizen should be able to purchase what they want from a store without interference. No laws are broken. No one is harmed. Passing this bill will harm and control constituents. RESTRICTING SNAP= RESTRICTING FOOD. DO NOT CONTROL SNAP. DO NOT CONTROL FOOD. DO NOT REMOVE AMERICAN FREEDOM WITHIN THE ECONOMY. I am shocked and disgusted how much Kansas policy lately is purely controlling and attacking already vulnerable populations. This is nothing but bullying and control and cannot stand.
