Stand up for your constituents: No more Gerrymandering in Indiana
To: Sen. Tomes, Rep. McNamara
From: A constituent in Mount Vernon, IN
August 7
I am writing to you regarding the meeting the vice president had with the governor and some republican legislators today (not sure if you’re included in that meeting or not).
If you’re staying silent about this meeting, it tells your constituents everything that we need to know about your integrity and character. This is antithetical to everything about a representative democracy that the USA is supposed to be. Do not stay silent when the voices of constituents are being suppressed. Only cowards and losers are open to cheating when they cannot win on their own merit and their own policies.
If what the president and this current congress was doing was as great as the Republican Party says it is, changing the maps wouldn’t be necessary—you should be able to win by the progress that the country is experiencing.
But we cannot be gaslit into believing that things are better under this administration or under the Republicans leadership in Indiana.
Prices across the board are higher (gas, groceries, necessary household items, etc.). Companies are negatively impacted by tariffs and cuts to healthcare including possible closures of rural hospitals in our state. Republicans signed for additional tolls to be put into place. Republicans are taking away our tax dollars from public schools to fund private schools mainly benefiting rich families.
Republicans talk about less taxes but are okay with more taxes in other ways that disproportionately impact working class families. How about using those dollars sent to DHS to pay for immigrants, asylum seekers, and even some Americans being kidnapped from the streets by masked and plain clothed ICE- to pay for education, healthcare, and other Hoosier needs?
Republicans are bragging about building a new concentration camp in our state. How despicable, inhumane, and UnAmerican. Haven’t we all learned from history that those actions are deplorable?!
This is what voters will remember. Good will win out and history will not be kind about Republicans’ actions like these.
Do not bow down to the president’s illegal and unconstitutional wishes. Do not remain silent - show courage and compassion for other human beings, represent your constituents, follow the law and the constitution. No more gerrymandering in Indiana.
