Repeal Section 230 and Restore Accountability for Major Platforms I am writing as your constituent to urge you to support legislation that repeals or fundamentally reforms Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Large social media platforms now function as de facto public squares, yet they continue to use Section 230 immunity to suppress lawful political speech without any accountability. Congress has several active bills addressing this problem: H.R. 7045 — Promoting Responsible Consumer Trust (PROTECT) Act This bill fully repeals Section 230 and removes blanket immunity for platforms that restrict or curate political speech for millions of users. H.R. 10332 — Sunset Act This bill also repeals Section 230 outright and replaces outdated statutory language that shields platforms from responsibility for their moderation decisions. Senate Section 230 Repeal Bill (Durbin–Graham) A Senate companion effort to eliminate Section 230 and restore legal accountability for platforms that act as public forums. Stop Censorship Act This reform bill narrows Section 230 so platforms are protected only when removing unlawful content — not lawful political viewpoints they simply dislike. These bills recognize a basic reality: when a platform hosts tens of millions of Americans and controls the flow of political information, it is no longer functioning as a small private forum. It is operating as a public square, and its decisions have direct consequences for democratic participation. Facebook’s removal of political content, bans on lawful speech, and opaque moderation practices have effectively limited my ability to speak and be heard. Section 230 currently shields platforms from accountability even when they engage in politically biased moderation. That protection has outlived its purpose. I am asking you to take action: Co-sponsor H.R. 7045 and H.R. 10332 to repeal Section 230 and end blanket immunity for platforms that restrict political speech. Support Senate repeal efforts, including the Durbin–Graham bill. Advance Section 230 reform bills such as the Stop Censorship Act to ensure platforms cannot hide behind immunity when suppressing lawful viewpoints. Hold oversight hearings examining how large platforms use Section 230 to avoid transparency and accountability in political content moderation. Americans deserve a digital environment where political speech is not controlled by a handful of corporations. Congress must act now to restore accountability and protect the integrity of public discourse.
