Uphold NATO commitment to democratic Ukraine against Russian aggression

To: Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff, Rep. Calvert

From: A constituent in Palm Springs, CA

March 1

The recent shouting match between President Trump and President Zelenskyy in the Oval Office raises grave concerns about the Administration siding with Russia over Ukraine and weakening ties with NATO and the EU. Trump's aggressive rhetoric towards Zelenskyy, a crucial wartime ally, and threats to withdraw U.S. support for Ukraine if they do not accept Russia's terms, signal a alarming shift towards accommodating Putin's territorial ambitions. This deal would legitimize Russia's invasion and occupation of parts of Ukraine, undermining Ukrainian sovereignty. Abandoning our commitment to Ukraine would severely damage American credibility, alienate our European partners, and embolden further Russian aggression, destabilizing the entire region. A strong, unified NATO acting as a counterweight to Russia is vital for international security. The U.S. must stand firm in its support for an independent, democratic Ukraine and her right to self-defense against unprovoked Russian belligerence. Preserving the NATO alliance and upholding the post-WW2 international order centered on territorial integrity and human rights should be a core national security priority. We cannot allow this Administration's "America First" isolationism to benefit Putin at the expense of global peace and American leadership.
