Stop the Hatch Act Violations and Government Propaganda NOW

To: Rep. Carter, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

October 4, 2025

What is happening on official U.S. government websites right now is nothing short of a disgrace. These sites, paid for by our tax dollars, are supposed to serve the American people with accurate, nonpartisan information. Instead, they have been hijacked to spew partisan propaganda, dripping with name-calling, smears, and blatant political messaging. This is not only unethical—it is illegal under the Hatch Act. The Hatch Act of 1939 (5 U.S.C. §§ 7321–7326) is crystal clear: government employees and agencies are prohibited from engaging in partisan political activity while acting in their official capacity. The purpose of the law is to protect the American people from exactly what we are seeing now—the government being turned into a campaign arm of a political party. And yet, here we are. Government websites are openly: • Labeling political opponents with derogatory names. • Pushing partisan talking points instead of facts. • Using taxpayer-funded platforms as a mouthpiece for propaganda. This is a gross misuse of power and a direct violation of federal law. These Hatch Act violations are not minor oversights. They are deliberate abuses, designed to manipulate the public, weaponize government resources, and shred any sense of neutrality. This isn’t the first time the Hatch Act has been violated—there is a clear historical precedent for accountability: • In 2019, the U.S. Office of Special Counsel cited Kellyanne Conway for “persistent, notorious, and deliberate” violations of the Hatch Act by using her official position to attack political opponents. • In 2012, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was cited for violating the Hatch Act when she gave a political speech in her official capacity. • In 2007, General Services Administration head Lurita Doan was found guilty of a Hatch Act violation for urging federal employees to help Republican candidates. If these individuals were investigated and held accountable for much less visible infractions, then the blatant propaganda now appearing on official government websites must not be ignored. Congress cannot sit by silently. If you ignore this, then you are complicit. I demand that you: 1. Launch immediate investigations into which agencies and individuals are responsible for injecting propaganda onto government websites. 2. Hold those guilty accountable with penalties and consequences—not just a slap on the wrist. 3. Purge partisan content from government websites and return them to their lawful purpose: serving all Americans, not just one political party. The Hatch Act exists for a reason. It is not a suggestion—it is the law. If you fail to enforce it, you are allowing our government to be corrupted from the inside out, and you are betraying the very oath you swore to uphold. Stop this illegal propaganda now. The American people deserve a government that serves them—not one that bullies, lies, and campaigns against them with their own tax dollars.
