I’m writing as a constituent deeply alarmed by the ongoing destruction and degradation occurring in Big Bend National Park. This landscape is one of Texas’s most treasured natural spaces — a place of ecological significance, cultural heritage, and profound beauty. What is happening there now threatens not only the park’s fragile ecosystems but also the legacy we leave for future generations. Big Bend is home to rare wildlife, irreplaceable desert habitats, and a unique stretch of the Rio Grande that supports both human and ecological communities. The increased damage — whether from industrial activity, irresponsible land use, or insufficient protections — is causing visible harm that cannot be easily undone. I respectfully urge you to take immediate action to: Strengthen protections for the park and surrounding lands Increase oversight and enforcement to prevent further destruction Support funding for conservation, restoration, and responsible stewardship Advocate for policies that preserve Texas’s natural heritage rather than jeopardize it Big Bend belongs to all of us, and its preservation is a responsibility we share. I hope you will stand firmly for its protection and ensure that this extraordinary place remains intact for generations to come.
