Work with the UN to hold Israel accountable.

To: Rep. Peltola, Sen. Sullivan, Sen. Murkowski, Pres. Biden

From: A constituent in Dillingham, AK

April 23

We have helped build Israel’s air defense system and support their military, we thought it would make for a more stable Middle East. I get we have had a relationship with Israel for a while, that does not mean we need to enable and empower genocide. I get that Israel is mad that Hamas killed 1,200 people and took hostages. I know that Israel claims that Hamas is using Palestinian civilians as human shields… Still Israel has killed over 34,000 Palestinian people and destroyed much more infrastructure and agricultural land just in the last six months. Israel has destabilized what little land the Palestinian people have left. Healthcare and food security is collapsing. Many children are being killed and disabled by our weapons and our fiscal support. This conflict has an unfair power imbalance and has become a genocide. Hamas took over Gaza from Palestinian people, collective punishment isn’t the answer. Hamas does violently appose the Israeli state but based on how Israel has responded they are full of just as much vitriol and eagerness to destroy the possibility of sovereignty for Palestinian people and will kill thousands of more people with the support of American tax dollars if you let them. Israel has been illegally trying to settle into Palestinian territory, and has been doing things like shooting at people tending to their olive trees and mounting armed raids. Israel has empowered the existence of Hamas by continually allowing the forceful expansion of Israeli settlers into Palestinian land and annexing more and more of it. Israel has been discriminatory and oppressive. It makes sense that a portion of Palestinian people would support the feelings that Hamas has. We are talking about humans. Our species and our planet. Today is Earth day, yet we empower Israel to ravage our environment with overzealous bombing. We are wasting so much life and destroying so many ecosystem services just to help Israel act like they are ethically responding to a threat. A threat they have been stirring into existence with lip service to sovereignty while burning the olive trees of Palestinian farmers and forcing them out of their homes. It is a disgrace that we so easily stomach and support genocide. That we are too timid to support a cease fire. I ask that you stop empowering Israel in its thirst for violence against the Palestinian people. They do not intend to leave the possibility of sovereignty for Palestinian people, and feel justified in their slaughter. Dangerous relationships to maintain. I ask you to actually work with the UN to protect human rights and hold Israel accountable.
