I just read about Hakeem Jeffries' secret meeting with Jared Kushner. Regardless of the fact that Trump has, completely irresponsibly and in violation of U.S. law, been treating his son-in-law as a public official, a governmental envoy, and in some cases the de facto Secretary of State, Kushner has no government position whatsoever (as you well know). To say that this secret meeting represents a complete failure by Jeffries to understand the moment in which we are currently living is a massive understatement. The only way Democrats should be seeking to work with Trump and his lackeys is on the logistics of them producing documents in response to committee investigations. The only meeting Hakeem Jeffries should be having with Jared Kushner is to tell him he’ll be subpoenaed by the House for a corruption hearing on Day One of Democratic control of the House. To do otherwise is both politically stupid and objectively irresponsible. A man like that cannot be the next Speaker of the House. If the Democrats regain control of the House of Representatives this November, I urge you strongly to vote against Jeffries for Speaker and back someone who will use their oversight power to aggressively investigate the Trump administration, including the craven self-dealing and self-enrichment perpetrated by the president and his family.
