Investigate and Block the Trump IRS Settlement Slush Fund

To: Rep. Joyce, Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted

From: A constituent in Willoughby, OH

May 19

Stop the reported IRS settlement deal before it is finalized. According to ABC News, President Trump is planning to drop his $10 billion IRS lawsuit not for personal cash, but in exchange for a $1.7 billion fund under a commission he controls — one that would compensate his political allies, including people prosecuted for the January 6 Capitol attack. That is not a legal settlement. That is a slush fund. This arrangement is a direct conflict of interest. A sitting president is negotiating with the government he leads to create a pot of money that benefits his political network. Entities associated with Trump are reportedly not barred from filing claims against this fund. The deal is being structured specifically to sidestep courts that have already shown skepticism about the underlying lawsuit. Congress cannot let this happen without scrutiny. I want you to demand a full investigation, use every legislative tool available to block this settlement, and hold public hearings immediately. The finalization is reportedly days away. There is no time to wait.
