I am writing because I am tired of watching Republican leaders talk about patriotism while staying silent as Independence Day is turned into a campaign stunt. The July 4 rally President Trump is planning is not patriotism. It is political self‑promotion wrapped in a flag, and it insults the meaning of the holiday.
Republicans claim to stand for limited government and responsible use of taxpayer dollars. Yet this rally would use federal property, federal security, and federal resources to glorify one man instead of the country. That is not conservative. It is not constitutional stewardship. It is the kind of behavior Republicans used to condemn when anyone else did it.
If the party cannot draw a line at the politicization of Independence Day, then what exactly does it stand for. July 4 belongs to the American people. It is not a campaign stage. It is not a loyalty test. It is not an opportunity for any politician to hijack a national holiday for personal gain.
I am asking you to act. Not to whisper concerns behind closed doors. Not to wait for someone else to take the heat. I am asking you to publicly oppose the use of federal resources for this rally and to defend the principle that national holidays are not partisan property.
If Republican leaders cannot protect the integrity of July 4, then they are failing at the most basic responsibility of public service. I expect better, and I will be watching who chooses silence over principle.
