Honor Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice

To: Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno

From: A verified voter in Columbus, OH

May 25

Today is Memorial Day. A day that we honor those veterans that have made the ultimate sacrifice for this country. These men and women took an oath to defend our Constitution, the same Constitution that you and our president routinely cast aside. Most recently you have remained silent as President Trump seeks to institute a 1.8 billion/fund to pay his allies which include insurrectionists that violently rioted at the Capitol on January 6th, 2021. They called for the hanging of Mike Pence, they broke into offices and desecrated them, they violently attacked and injured Capitol police officers. Your silence in the face of this appalling corruption and trampling of the Constitution is a direct insult to all service members living and dead. And then there is the Iran War which you have also remained mute about. A majority of Americans and Ohioans have reached out to you repeatedly about this unnecessary war that has ended the lives of not only our service members but countless civilians. Your silence in the face of this disgrace once again puts on full display your fealty to Trump and disregard for the actual human beings impacted by this unnecessary, illegal War! Furthermore, the big beautiful bill that you supported has impacted veterans in multiple negative ways. VA staffing was reduced significantly lengthening already long wait times for crucial care veterans need. The cuts to Medicaid and healthcare in the bill affect at least 1.75 million veterans and their families. Special needs veterans families are particularly impacted as the VA and Tricare do not cover medical expenses for them. Cuts to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau funding and the office of Service Master Affairs in the bill leaves veterans and their families with limited protection against predatory lending and credit disputes. There are limits to the expanded child tax credit from the bill. As a result, approximately 650,000 children of veterans will be excluded because of the way the taxable income of their parents is calculated . Finally, SNAP benefits have been severely slashed which will impact veterans and their families. Work and age requirements have been expanded for these benefits. It takes an average of 6 months for a veteran in transition from active duty to find gainful employment. Many veterans and their families have relied on SNAP benefits during this transition. So on this Memorial Day, I am holding you accountable! Your support of the big beautiful bill has enriched millionaires and billionaires, but negatively impacted everyday American citizens including veterans. Furthermore, your silence in the face of total disregard for our Constitution that you have sworn an allegiance to, speaks volumes as you prostrate yourself to one man at the expense of your constituents and all Americans.
