Go back through the One Big Beautiful Bill and strip out every provision that subsidizes data center construction in rural communities. This legislation cut nutritional assistance and healthcare for working families while quietly handing cheap land and taxpayer-backed infrastructure to Big Tech. Rural Americans got played. The data centers being built in these communities drain local water supplies at an 85% evaporation rate, pollute air and water, and consume electricity at the expense of residents who see none of the benefit. There are reports of former sand mine owners selling damaged, unrepaired land directly to data center developers — meaning the environmental destruction gets passed along while the original polluters walk away clean. These are not economic development projects. They are extraction operations dressed up as investment. The constituents who voted for this bill were promised it would work for them. Instead, their tax dollars are subsidizing server farms for corporations whose executives are planning their next move to Mars. Read every page of what passed. Then legislate these provisions out.
